My first Life Drawing session

Hello there!
Guess there’s a first time for everything…so this is what I did during my first session last week.

It turns out I’m not very good at drawing on huge paper (as I draw small a lot of the time) with the paper positioned way higher than me as almost half of the paper is higher than my eye level. I will need to adjust the easel height to fit my midget height next time! As a result, I draw heads bigger than they should be and the body proportions are out of whack as I don’t stand back and away from the paper enough and I think I rushed into the details too.

There’s much room for improvement here though charcoal is a fun and messy way to start things off.

Now that I’ve taken photos of what I’ve done, I’ve thrown these drawings away…it’s too big to keep!
I guess it’s also the process that matters, not the outcome.

Quick poses for drawing the basic shapes
20 minute pose: huge head…it looked fine from my midget height level perspective at the time though! At least it looks like a human.
Longest pose; a bit more than 40 minutes. Tried erasing the body out from the charcoal…but it didn’t work out with the materials I was given.
Detailed headshot: You can tell I put more work on the head than the rest of the body! And I gave him a lot of hair…

Anyway, my first Life Drawing session was great and it was good meeting fellow beginners with different backgrounds and looking at what they’ve come up with too.

Shall keep you posted on sessions to come.

Thanks for looking! (:
