๐ Jake Chicken Subway Surfing ๐น Crossy Road x Subway Surfers collab fanart
Little timelapse of this fanart I did in February! This is finally announced [trailer]!! ๐
I still won’t do Crossy Road fanart too much since it’s technically unpaid marketing work. Plus I don’t have much of an engaged audience (I’m teeny tiny even though I’ve been posting online for ages). But I consider this a rare exception for this special collab update! Crossy and Surfers are two of the OGs!
Sometimes I still want to and draw what I’ve helped make for work, as fanart ;P

Chicken Run!! Ted Lutz (guard) and his dog chasing down Jake Chicken causing a mischief ๐ฆ
For this Crossy Road x Subway Surfers update I was the artist doing the almost all of the character voxel art/design, researching Subway Surfers, animation (there’s so much idle animation in their game – that alone took me over 2.5 weeks) and actually implementing them in game (by learning and practing a tad more Unity). Phew!
This is with art direction help from the great Alice Walsh and the amazing Brendon T.’s help with the concepting phase for 2 of the many Subway Surfers characters.
Note that sadly, several/many Subway Surfers characters that we made got cut from the final character lineup to keep it interesting, selective, tight plus we had our March deadline so apologies if your favourite Subway Surfers character didn’t make it in ๐ I noted a few were asking “where’s this character?” and I did actually make art for some of them :’)
This update was super intense to work on since we had to get it done within a short period of time and now we all need some recovery time hopefully (while some of us are keeping watch for bugs & doing more marketing shenanigans) :’D
Much kudos and appreciation to the whole team on their hustling, hard, incredible efforts to support and get this update done!! Art, UI, game design, development, QA, marketing, business/legal and so on!! :’)
Artwise I also helped a small bit with marketing art assets (not the key art, that’s Brendon T.’s hard, intense work and Alice’s concept!) Brendon T. did a wonderful job with all the environment/world art of Subway City, UI art and marketing art!
Oh yeah – I had to play Subway Surfers for the first time to research for it haha
Personally I was super happy I got to work on characters for this update while it was also challenging and intense :0!! As you know by now, I enjoy working on characters the most! ๐
A lot of ongoing learning/practice/teamwork with the other artists, marketing and dev team while trying to not feel like a sad, anxious, insecure fraud :’) Always managing these waves of feelings.
I was also doing loose ends here and there and juggling other things/tasks too :0
Leonie rambles about…the Nintendo Switch Direct (the first one) last week
- Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream โ Nintendo Direct 3.27.2025
- after 11/12 years finally!! I don’t know if I’ll play myself
- I’m excited since I’ve seen countless streams of this weird, absurd, silly, fun series
- Rhythm Heaven Groove โ Nintendo Direct 3.27.2025
- it’s been almost 10 years!! YESSSS!!
- I’m not great at it but it’s jamming!! I miss it and I’m happy it’s back!!
- I was just saying I missed Rhythm Heaven earlier in the direct (when it was live) and then this happened <3!
- (no this is not reacting to the Switch 2 direct as this blog post was published before that)
Anyhoo I waited until the Crossy x Surfers update was actually available to play before I posted ;P
It’s very heart warming to see lots of players enjoying and loving what we/the team has made so far!! :’D <3
