💌 Little update: so I finally changed my blog’s theme 📝

This is the best I can do after hours of trying to find a free theme that’s good enough for me.

It’s been frustrating and everything else is too flashy, busy, shop focused, business focused or just doesn’t have the functionality I want. I just want something as close to the old one in layout, customisable features and functionality as possible.

Rest in peace old blog theme that I took years iterating over

The old one had to go unfortunately because ever since the theme updated:

• I get critical errors whenever I want to customise / edit colours for this Responsive theme
  • it’s a memory overload that I can’t and don’t want to solve because it should have been enough memory!!
  • another person in their forum asked the same question and they were told to increase the memory (but my upper limit is already max)!
  • some depreciated php code errors going on in a loop with the theme’s php code when I look at the log file
• I cannot see nor write blog comments anywhere anymore even when it’s enabled on my end
• the menu colours are now unreadable and I can’t edit them anymore
• the theme is pushing stuff on me about their paid version that I don’t need and I feel like it’s going to be breaking more things
• I do not like how the “Read More” button looks like but I can’t change it now
• I don’t like how the theme updates and it breaks the functionality of things that worked before and I have trust issues with this theme now
• also when I try to test out this old theme again, it gives me the same critical error
  • so I can’t even test nor switch back to the old theme anymore – once you leave you stay out!
  • I conclude that the theme is fully broken for me so I’d rather not go back if it’s not even functional…

This current theme I’m using is not perfect and will take some getting used to though.

• The continue reading button also looks weird but I don’t want to bother trying to change it…I don’t have the interest in sinking in this troubleshooting timesink ;P
• And why is related post being shown twice at the end of the blog post? I can’t turn one of them off so ah well.
• I’m limited in what I can customise with the colours but hey it’s fine, I can work with the limitations
• managed to edit the css for the list indentations so it’s better spaced out phew

It’s jank but it’s always been jank.

At least comments are functional now and the menu is readable.

The other themes I tried had less things to customise so compromises had to be made anyway! :0

Wah am just juggling

Also had a stressful day all round because of food safety storage mishaps because I slept in from exhaustion when they delivered and lots of ongoing housework to do.

And these appointments I’m trying to keep track and the costs…I’ll talk about it another time because I’m still in the middle of appointments :<

Here I’m not doing as much as I’d want because I got caught up trying to switch to a theme that functions better for my blog ;P

Anyhoo I just wanted to do a little post to also give people a chance to get used to this blog theme haha
