Life Drawing 7 - Mixed Media Female & did I improve?

Hullo there! Last life drawing session...for this year at least. (Done on Nov 23rd, yes I've spaced them out!)

Somewhat not happy with this session as the focus turned out more about the media as I kept switching (as we were given choices this time) and...the beast of indecision attacked me. I should have done more studies with a focus, but I guess I have already allowed this session to be a relaxed one where anything goes.

Too late to do it differently!

Animation Practice - Late Night Musings

Hullo! I did this last month but I forgot to post it...and probably because I need much more practice on the 3D animation side of things. Short blog post relatively to the others.

Note that this one isn't publicised hoho. Though if you are a RSS subscriber, you'd see this (:

Life Drawing 6 - Male back to basics with pencil

Hullooo friends!

Pencil work with life drawing now from the 15th November. Yes, I'm counting how many life drawing sessions I actually attend. Here goes number six!

Contour drawings without looking at the paper. Crazy lines going on here. I couldn't stay concentrated at some points!

Me and my eggs

Hullo again!

I've been sick with the cold since last Wednesday/Thursday, so I said to myself: "I might as well revamp my profile picture, background picture and header!"

But let's rewind: Originally I was starting to learn Blender in class after the fast runthroughs into the program by my teacher. I practiced modeling my parachuting UUUinfinity egg here in Blender, retoped in 3Dcoat, painted in Mudbox and rendered out a turnaround in Maya.

Life Drawing 5 - Stool and the Bespectacled Male

Hulloooo.

Life Drawing jiggling goodness (there was music going on in this session).
Did this on the 13th of November.

I went from pencil to smudgy charcoal/conte.

Nomad Panda - Wireframes & Renders [WIP]

Hullo friends (:

My Nomad Panda is still not finished but I've brought him through to the render stage to see what can be done better (and because I had it due last Thursday of course!) He's still a pretty plain panda, but I will hopefully change that as I develop him more. Stay tuned!

Rendered Nomad Panda version 1

I'll just say version 1 as I'll probably reattempt some things all over again to make a better version 2 Nomad Panda before I move on from this character. Topology needs redoing for one thing. And I'll need to properly paint textures in next time around.
Please note this is a screen character rather than a game character.

Train Riding Drawing Adventures 6

Hulloooo.

Just like old times; collection of my efforts during Oct/Nov. (:

I think it's number 6.
I won't shade them in this time, as it was time consuming when I did it in the previous train riding post. It's not much though in terms of drawings though...
...as I was barely awake during the other times on train rides. Tired...but I guess in a good way.

Nomad Panda - Modeling the 5.5 million poly Sculpt

Hullo small handful of kind friends!

Yes, tis' another Timely Tuesdays update!
Or let's call it Terrifically Terrible Tuesdays. Gives it a more positive vibe I'd hope.

Where I left off from last time with the Base Mesh of my Nomad Panda...well it's now almost 5.5 million polygons at subdivision level 6. (Confused? For those who have no idea on what I'm talking about, don't worry, it's just a bit of the technicalities. Essentially, the higher the number of polys, the more resources in time and memory space the model takes.)

Let's just say that after spending across 5 days of working on this Panda sculpt, I am in great need of a break from sculpting fur in the least. Fur. Fur. Overwhelming amounts of fur.

No video this time, easier to show them as images only.

Life Drawing 4 - Female in Drippy Ink

(8th Nov) Hulloooo! (:

Another horrific line up of adventures in life drawing, this time with ink. Blue ink.

I made a huge mess on the floor and...it wouldn't completely go away despite attempts in wiping it.
All the excess ink were drawn by gravity, causing it to leave its entrails across the paper as it falls to its inevitable demise.

Nomad Panda - Base Character Concept Art

Hullo!

Yes it's not a Fun Friday; I dub this day as Timely Tuesdays! It's where I find myself with something I need to post asap to get feedback, so I post them earlier within this scheduled time. (:
(No, I didn't wake up at 5am to post this.)

Wastelander-esque Panda

I'm currently working (volunteering, if you want to be technically correct) on a Character for a team of game programmers. It's their student game project and they wanted a "Wastelander Panda" webseries sort of Panda character with a Fallout 3 vibe to it. He also carries trash around. Their game is a puzzle 2D platformer, so I will need to make a spritesheet for them asap.

These are my rough sketches/thumbnails to get an idea of the Panda they're looking for.

HouseKeeping: RSS feed changeover!

Hello friend!

If you're subscribed to my RSS feed or my RSS email updates, you'd need to revert back to the original RSS feed link instead as follows: http://uuuinfinity.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

At the moment, the old feed link redirects to this link but only for a limited time of 29 days before the Feedburner feed link will die out. If you would like to keep being updated via RSS, change your subscription feed link to the default one.

I realise that I can no longer stay with Feedburner as they're basically not supporting it anymore. I wished they would have made it more clear and obvious that it's becoming obsolete.

I think you can also use RSS to make email updates for you instead, through places like Blogtrottr or something else that suits you. I haven't used Blogtrottr though before, so don't count on my word here. Otherwise, my Facebook Art Page and Twitter are still going strong, and are great to receive updates from my blog too, once I get the connections going between them once again.

Hope to keep seeing you around and thanks for your kind support in my arting journey (:

Life Drawing Session 3 - Female

Hul-lo! The third session I did on the 2nd November!
(I might have mislabeled them as Oct in some of them but it doesn't matter)!

We played with something called conte pastels, not as soft as charcoal, yet not as hard as chalk. It's similar, yet different. Very strange when using it. Anyway, here goes!

My first Life Drawing session

Hello there!
Guess there's a first time for everything...so this is what I did during my first session last week.

It turns out I'm not very good at drawing on huge paper (as I draw small a lot of the time) with the paper positioned way higher than me as almost half of the paper is higher than my eye level. I will need to adjust the easel height to fit my midget height next time! As a result, I draw heads bigger than they should be and the body proportions are out of whack as I don't stand back and away from the paper enough and I think I rushed into the details too.

There's much room for improvement here though charcoal is a fun and messy way to start things off.

Now that I've taken photos of what I've done, I've thrown these drawings away...it's too big to keep!
I guess it's also the process that matters, not the outcome.

Dishonored Fanart: Queen of the Heart

Um yes, fanart out of the blue...

I haven't and won't play the game Dishonored, but I've watched some people play through the whole game instead. Then I wanted to draw something. So here's a short blog post!

I can't say I'm happy with it anatomy-wise but I shall keep learning!

iSomethings eaten by Sleepy Train Riders

Hello friend, another day for posting and this time for it's for sketches!
There's been more posts this month; didn't expect that!

And yes, a late post and not the usual Friday update time.
My computer needed sorting out and I had to add some shading to my sketches below.

"tsk tsk", you may say!

...moving on! The following is another relaxed collection of doodles made over the past two months.

Dragon Guardian Penultimate Model

Hey there! Thanks for following my progress so far! Sorry a bit later than the usual 5pm AEST but exporting the video and all that took a while!

I've "finished" the model for submission/assessment but there are still areas for improvement to be made based on the feedback I received yesterday. Still I've been told it's a good attempt for my first 3D character so that's encouraging! This is the Penultimate Model, not final one.

Okay here goes with the current stage I'm at!

Dragon Guardian Sculpt Turnarounds

A quick post with my sculpted turnarounds to receive timely feedback.
Are there more that needs to be sculpted or too overdone? Let me know!
I'm going to tag all posts to do with developing this character under "dragon guardian".

Only one of the sleeves and hair loops are sculpted as I have transferred them over via normals (as forgot that mirrored duplication is not in Mudbox).

Dragon Guardian Character Development Part 1

Hello five of my readers! (:
Currently I'm doing a character development project to model it to 3D form while learning about 3D techniques. This is my character, the Water Dragon Guardian.
She is my first 3D character I've ever done and constructive feedback is appreciated!

I'm just going to post my progress....and I'm actually stressing out now. It's due the coming week!
It's been 4 weeks already so far we've been working on this.

Despite impending doom of the deadline, I realise the importance in posting progress shots as I go so I won't forget about it and in order for feedback to be useful...so here I go!

Scrumptious Apples and Hot Springs

Hey there! Going to post some 3D things I've done as a complete beginner!
Constructive Feedback is welcome! (:

First Still Life in 3D: Modeled, Textured and so on all by me. The water droplets need some work. I might other fruit later on the track so consider this as a Work in Progress! Some people liked the lighting choices I made due the stylised look to it.

Friday the Thirteenth

Thirteenth of a Friday. The 13th of July.
Thirteen and Friday on the same day.

Friday the 13th.

But you're not superstitious, are you?
Course not.
But this shall be the day you will never forget...
...once you hear this gruesome story.

Parachute June

The latest logo design: falling in a computer screen near you!
Hey there blog readers! I did the above mini revamp of my logo two weeks ago (some may have noticed) and I am still tending to favour the fun colours of blues with a tinge of light orange/beige to represent my blog. This is despite my blank, serious face and probably unapproachable exterior as demonstrated here: :|

For drawing I tend to draw fun and silly amidst all the human studies anyway (:

May 2012 Pen Sketches

Hey there! Last Friday of the month of May so here's another blog post to invade your screen.

Not much drawn this month as I was either:
  • juggling with "loads of crazy assessments due" this month (mainly)
  • reading tintin or being brain-dead on train rides instead
  • it's getting harder to draw from a safe distance
  • don't want to draw the back of people's heads all the time

April 2012 Sketches & Tshirt Design ahoy!

Hey there! I've got the April 2012 Sketches below!
I've begun to utilise my "ninja" skills and drew these observational drawings of real people with the undoubtedly permanent "pen tool"!
Definitely looks better than the mobile phone camera quality in past posts.

The nose came from a very old gentleman I saw on the train but he was too fast for me to draw his whole face!

No, I didn't forget the dog! (doodles April 2012)

No, I didn't forget about this blog. It's the last Friday of the month and I did say at least one blog post each month! Perhaps I may stick with the last Friday of every month for now as the minimum.

Here are the sketches  I've done so far that I've been able to get onto the computer. I'm still not proud of what I'm doing so far as they're only rough mindless sketches! I know there's heaps of females below but that's what I usually see in junk mail catalogues I get. (I reference from catalogues by the way)

People and studies and captions oh my! 3

I'm struggling to make time for drawing nowadays!
I'm drawing at least even though I'm not happy with the results.

Note from now on, I may have to do it fortnightly or at least once a month on a Friday because I am struggling to find my feet so far at the moment. The new update schedule might even be every fortnight by default. Don't know at this stage. All I know is that I got other priorities going on and there isn't much time left over to self study but only enough for me to doodle like the things below.

StreetPassQuest, Tekken 5 comic, kirby & studies

Street Pass Quest II [3DS]: I just happened to have two clones of myself in blonde wigs, claiming to be my children
Can't help but draw the above as I'd never imagine that in a game I would be a monarch/king and I have offspring looking like myself!

Digital Fanart Friday Doodles: Mario 3DLand & Kirby Mass Attack

The following are some traditional doodles I decided to practice digital techniques/programs on during the last week of December 2011. Loads of trial and error! And also because I played Super Mario 3D Land and Kirby Mass Attack.

1) Based on the trailer for Luigi's Mansion
2) Based on an old Paper Mario 2 doodle I did
3) Based on how the tanooki/raccoon costumes on Luigi and Toad are hilarious
4) Based on Super Mario Bros. Wii when my bro kept jumping on my head when playing coop

Skyward Sword Portraits VIII: Grannie of the Ages & ramble

Did this on the 24th of December 2011. No photo reference this one.

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the eighth and last one I did. I still wonder how she sees when her eyes are not visible. This is also my second time I drew her from scratch because my first attempt turned out horribly like a sagging pumpkin face!

There is no more to come for the portraits series. See this tag [Skyward Sword Pencil Portraits] for the rest of the series.

LoZ Skyward Sword Portraits VII: Guardian of Time & notes

Hey there!

In the past few months I increasingly cannot deny that I should do my comics digitally [at least for the colouring] as completely traditionally drawn comics [at least by me] do not look good on a computer screen [not saying that it looks brilliant in the first place of course; I've still got much to go] as well as it does in person and do not catch the attention of web viewers as well as digitally coloured and/or drawn comics do [unless you are already a professionally skilled traditional artist; which I am not!]. It makes me think I'd need to put even more effort to each thing I do and strive for quality and not quantity. Still, I am still self studying traditionally in drawing before I think I should go for digital methods. But I am impatient all the same!!

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Portraits VI: Groosenator of Legend

Well it's February now...don't know yet for sure what this year will bring still; limbo's been going for far too long. Anyway, back to blogging...

Sketched this during playing the game but only finished it *after* completing the game on the 15th of December 2011.
It's based off a photo by cabit in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the sixth one I did. Groose turned out to be so awesome that even "awesome" is perhaps an understatement. See him with his wonderfully groomed hair and glory.

LoZ: Skyward Sword Portraits V: Skyloft Historian & Human figure stuff

Hey it's been another week! (: Hope you've gotten used to the Friday updates by now. Been somewhat unmotivated lately though.

Sketched this on the 23rd of November 2011 [before game released in Australia] but then only finished shading it during the game as I was distracted haha.
It's based off a photo by nickatkins in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the fifth one I did. Made him oogly eyed because he seemed that way in the screenshots before I got the game. That and an owl is named after him [Kaepora Gaebora] and that he actually has no legs under certain conditions. (:

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Portraits IV: Demon Lord

Still got nothing to post on Tuesdays [nothing proper at least] so now considering just posting once a week and post whatever I have at hand, instead of a theme associated with a day. I shall more or less submit every Friday then as that's what seems most realistic for me. Dubbing this Fun Fridays now. I'm going to gradually pack things into these weekly posts when I'm capable someday.
Haha I'm changing my mind a lot but for the better I'd hope [and I'm letting you know at least].

Did this on the 21st of November 2011 [before game released in Australia].
Took over a few days to complete and is based off a photo by n3k in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the fourth one I did. Ghirahim drawn before I knew he was more "quirky" than I expected.

Skyward Sword Portraits III: Guide of Destiny + mariocomic

Hey there! Another one here (:

Excuse the copy paste as I want to get the same point across for all of these:

Did this on the 20th of November 2011 [before game released in Australia].
Took over a few days to complete and is based off a photo by paulcox in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the third one I did.
First time drawing Fi so bear with my boring symmetrical composition here. Not proud of this one.

Text Post: Mission 2012 & "Testy Tuesdays"

Hey there! It's 2012 now and just want to give a heads up on what's going on [artwise only] and set some goals for this blog & in my journey. New fresh start in another year.

Right now in art skill progression...
I am still trying to draw other things that look worthy of posting at the moment because I am mixed between showing what I'm up to versus posting high quality stuff...when most things aren't high quality in the first place....and yet I want to show my progress so people can see the improvement....so bare with me through my wonderfully insane, silly, childish, striving-to-be-professional-level-but-not-there-yet art!
I have also understood that technical skill is nothing compared to creativity, expression, story telling, writing and communicating your ideas so that is another area I'll need to work on, slowly and patiently. I am currently going through non fiction technical art books very slowly because the time to practice must be much more than the time used in reading the book. Still, I can't help but be utterly impatient sometimes!

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Portraits II: Hero of the Goddess

Did this on the 19th of November 2011 [before game released].
Took over a few days to complete and is based off a photo by handcoding in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the second one I did. Link isn't perfect here but I'm pretty happy with my progress here.
