Fanart: Okamiden Finished version 1

Photo version: the actual watercolour cut outs!

Okay I've finished it up with lineart and there are going to be two versions. First version will be the one below where I've scanned it with texture background by hibbary as  you see below:

And when the weather isn't so rainy anymore, I'm planning to go outside and take photos of them on top of REAL dry grass. That will be version 2!

See previous posts if you want to see progress shots of this.

It's all up to the weather now as to when the second version will happen!

Watercolour: Lost in Winter

Watercolour +layers practice with snowy scenery that didn't go as I planned. Things went everywhere.

That "blob" in the middle is supposed to be a cloaked figure (:

NOTICE: I will keep blogging, but I won't be very active in the online world for a while. So if you do decide to comment, I will get back to you as soon as I'm ready which might be in a month or two. I don't know yet.

Art Book Review: "The Art of Perspective" by Phil Metzger

What's going on with this post?
Well since I've started borrowing library books again in July, and I'm currently venturing through non-fiction books about drawing whatnot [fiction books will be borrowed later and will be recorded in my social reading places!] And figured I might as well review a bit over how useful books I've borrowed are to me.

I am not paid to do this; I just want a record of this to myself and perhaps other people may find it useful.
I will only go over the book briefly in dot points though.
I don't know if I should do this whenever I read an art book but there's a first for everything!

Fanart: Kirby Happy Dance

A little animation I did using splodges of watercolour. (:
Waddle Dee, Kirby, MetaKnight and Waddle Doo.

Who's your favourite?

EDIT: Sorry for posting the finished Okamiden piece too early! I'll post it at the end of this month again. Got too excited to post it that I forgot to schedule it!

Fanart: Okamiden Watercolours

Took some patience to do this! This is the watercolours stage.
I skipped the penciling onto watercolour paper part because it's really a refined version of the sketch.
At the time of writing, I've done the lineart stage, need to do the background!

Going for actually taking photos with them on actual grass or on watercolour grass. Hmm...

Fanart: Okamiden Sketch

This is a rough sketch/compositional plan on  how I'm going to do my watercolour.
At time of writing, I 've finished the watercolour stage but I need to get some  background going.

Gosh this game is emotionally involving for me; made me a bit teary!
Okami was a game about replenishing nature and overcoming evil [which took a while for me to pick  up].
Okamiden was the same except the underlying main theme is the power of friendship.

At first I thought Okamiden was more of the same [rehash of Okami] and for the first half of the game I was taking my time and taking long breaks from it in the first week and a half, not really eager to finish it. When it was around 60% into the game [in the middle of having 4 of the 5 partners], the story picked up, became somewhat unpredictable in plot and I couldn't stop playing and finished it within two days.
It was a pleasant and relieving surprise. It's not an outstanding, perfect game but it was worth the time!

A game that actually got me doing fanart for it. (:

Watercolour: Melbourne City in the Winter daytime & RSS/email updates

Very tiny watercolour piece. One has to be veeery patient with watercolours, waiting for them to dry. Because they spread and explode where you don't want them to.

The being in the red jacket is me and this is my interpretation of early Winter mornings in Melbourne's CBD. And I draw myself in that red jacket so I'm recognisable in illustration, not because I wear it all the time haha

At times I had to walk behind someone who was casually walking ahead of me smoking and I struggled not to passive smoke. [Disclaimer: I don't smoke and I know a few people who smoke, so nothing against your freedom of choice despite the health risks; I completely understand that you struggle to find a place where you can smoke. I just don't want to be forced to smoke what you've smoked thanks]

And at the station there were seas of people going up escalators and mobs of people going from place to place either in cars or on footpaths. Basically felt busy, crowded and makes you feel insignificant and tiny.

Reminder to Subscribe to my RSS feed on the sidebar to keep updated!

A BIG THANK YOU to the two/three of you who are already subscribed/following me! (:

Announcement about my website use

After trialing some time with using Posterous to post to Blogspot and my Art Tumblr for me...it's too much of a hassle than it needs to be. I thought I'd be able to do it but I feel terribly stretched. I know I've been going out and trying things--that's why I keep changing my mind after each trial period! And now I have to alter all my descriptions across my websites, hooray.

Thumbelina: Final Illustration

See my progress thread here: http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6532

Learned a lot about toad skin and played around with things.
Depiction of Thumbelina's mother's flashlight on her next new victim husband.
The dead white butterfly has its wings ripped off and was attached to Thumbelina earlier. The others are her other "husbands".
