Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Portraits I: Spirited Maiden

**Early Happy New 2012! I hope the new year is a better one. (: Thanks for the very few 2-3 people who read my blog; I will make sure I will keep drawing for bigger improvements!

I now dub this Fanart Friday (:

Did this on the 13th of November 2011 [before game released].
Took over a few days to complete and is based off a photo by kellibrosnahan in this figure drawing resource [I can't directly link to it]: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

I started these portraits, intending to practice and Skyward Sword kept me motivated. (:

This is the first one I did. Of course I'd do Zelda first!

Should I continue my Graphic Design plans or not? Help!

Forum here: Continue Graphic Design plans or not?

You can comment here instead too.

I was optimistic before these concerns were raised but now I'm not so sure.
I was scarcely active online because of my preparations towards my applications to different institutions so now my mood is somewhat heavy today because of job demand concerns I heard today.

Please head over the link and message me your thoughts/advice/suggestions. At another crossroads again.

Art Book Reviews: Life Drawing, Dragons and Making Graphical Novels

"How to Draw and Paint Dragons" By Tom Kidd

I've loved dragons since little. More so with chinese/serpent like ones but as long as it's a dragon!
So of course I'd borrow this.

Art Book Reviews: Life Drawing, Action and Comic Drawing

Censored because of obvious reasons; this Blogspot is family friendly!
"Drawing the Male Nude" By Giovanni Civardi

Well I've tried applying for "Life Drawing" classes thrice and things failed. And I don't draw males as well as I draw females. So with this book I thought; hm, this looks direct and straightforward, since I don't have real people to draw--it doesn't have to be nude but getting the impression that I need to know what's under the clothing to get the forms of the human body right.

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword - Link and Zelda and Loftbird

Link and Zelda

Haha yes I had to change the Zelda emblem to mine.
So it was her cloth/shawl thing he was using to float down whenever he lands! So I had to draw this...during one of my breaks.

I covered the Library Barcode. The Author's name just happened to be there.

"Fantasy Cartooning" By Ben Caldwell

Interesting typography, has a fantasy theme, appears interesting....give it a go.

Team Fortress 2: Heavy and his DOKTORS & Whacking Whatever

Heavy and his DOKTORS

It really happened when I was playing as Heavy. I was surrounded by THREE Medics from my team at the Control point and I was calling out in Heavy-voice: "I LOVE THESE DOKTORS!"
It's almost like Heavy and his three mistresses or something. But two of the medics left me and healed other people but that's not the point.

UUUinfinity comic: Roadkill Art

Roadkill Art

Glad I had the sense to not run over to the road when cars were about to run me over. I've had many other clumsy closer calls but those are irrelevant. I remember feeling like throwing the huge A1 thing away. People on the other side of the road also just stood there in shock and hands over their mouths as the thing got run over. I didn't bother looking at the drivers' expressions as I was staring at my poster getting run over but I guess they didn't care haha

It was a cardboard poster I made that I wasn't proud of anyway. It was a rush job I did taking an all nighter to do and thus it wasn't very well planned. It does have tyre tracks on it still and for some reason it's still being kept somewhere. I'd like to reuse it and take off the stuck on poster parts I did I guess but the occasion never has happened so far.

Quotes: Love, Beauty and Motivation & Update Notice

Started a while back to practice using my [very cheap and bad quality] chinese calligraphy brush [which after using is already going in different directions and getting wrecked!!].

Portal Fanart: "I thought you loved me"

"I thought you loved me"
This can be interpreted two ways.

Either the player OR the cube is saying that quote. Take your pick.

Nintendo Fanart: Leaving + It's been a while

Link, leaving the world behind after glancing the world he once saved for the last time.
Who's the fairy? Maybe he has found Navi and has decided to leave. Who knows.

Zelda Fanart: "You never came back"

"You never came back" - Princess Zelda

Watercolour practice of clouds....became this. It's fun having on the spot ideas!

Okay Link's silhouette is darkened out because he isn't really there.
When Link disappeared off to find Navi, he never came back. The Hero never returned.

And in approximately 100 years, the Great Floods began. [this is according to my understanding of events!]

I've always wondered where Link has gone.
How Zelda feels about being deserted.
How the atmosphere may have changed during his absence.

Hungry Luma from Super Mario Galaxy and sequel.

Zelda Fanart: Search for Navi

Went from Watercolour practice of layering trees to...this. A bit of mixed media now.

Can you find Navi? She's somewhere.

I guess the time before Majora's Mask started, when Link set out to look for her. For some reason.

Fanart: Okamiden Finished version 2

To think! The 20th of August was a sunny day! (:
[and I accidentally posted this on this day when I should be autoposting!]

There are two versions for the grass background [the original vision].

VERSION 2.1-- Actual photo with actual art on top of it with a horrible quality mobile phone camera:

V. 2.1: Mobile phone camera

VERSION 2.2 -- scanned images + my photo of grass!

Version 2.2: Scanned images plus my grass photo!

At last! This is finished!
Now which shall I post to all the other sites?
Rhetorical question; Version 2.2 wins really.

Fanart: Okamiden Finished version 1

Photo version: the actual watercolour cut outs!

Okay I've finished it up with lineart and there are going to be two versions. First version will be the one below where I've scanned it with texture background by hibbary as  you see below:

And when the weather isn't so rainy anymore, I'm planning to go outside and take photos of them on top of REAL dry grass. That will be version 2!

See previous posts if you want to see progress shots of this.

It's all up to the weather now as to when the second version will happen!

Watercolour: Lost in Winter

Watercolour +layers practice with snowy scenery that didn't go as I planned. Things went everywhere.

That "blob" in the middle is supposed to be a cloaked figure (:

NOTICE: I will keep blogging, but I won't be very active in the online world for a while. So if you do decide to comment, I will get back to you as soon as I'm ready which might be in a month or two. I don't know yet.

Art Book Review: "The Art of Perspective" by Phil Metzger

What's going on with this post?
Well since I've started borrowing library books again in July, and I'm currently venturing through non-fiction books about drawing whatnot [fiction books will be borrowed later and will be recorded in my social reading places!] And figured I might as well review a bit over how useful books I've borrowed are to me.

I am not paid to do this; I just want a record of this to myself and perhaps other people may find it useful.
I will only go over the book briefly in dot points though.
I don't know if I should do this whenever I read an art book but there's a first for everything!

Fanart: Kirby Happy Dance

A little animation I did using splodges of watercolour. (:
Waddle Dee, Kirby, MetaKnight and Waddle Doo.

Who's your favourite?

EDIT: Sorry for posting the finished Okamiden piece too early! I'll post it at the end of this month again. Got too excited to post it that I forgot to schedule it!

Fanart: Okamiden Watercolours

Took some patience to do this! This is the watercolours stage.
I skipped the penciling onto watercolour paper part because it's really a refined version of the sketch.
At the time of writing, I've done the lineart stage, need to do the background!

Going for actually taking photos with them on actual grass or on watercolour grass. Hmm...

Fanart: Okamiden Sketch

This is a rough sketch/compositional plan on  how I'm going to do my watercolour.
At time of writing, I 've finished the watercolour stage but I need to get some  background going.

Gosh this game is emotionally involving for me; made me a bit teary!
Okami was a game about replenishing nature and overcoming evil [which took a while for me to pick  up].
Okamiden was the same except the underlying main theme is the power of friendship.

At first I thought Okamiden was more of the same [rehash of Okami] and for the first half of the game I was taking my time and taking long breaks from it in the first week and a half, not really eager to finish it. When it was around 60% into the game [in the middle of having 4 of the 5 partners], the story picked up, became somewhat unpredictable in plot and I couldn't stop playing and finished it within two days.
It was a pleasant and relieving surprise. It's not an outstanding, perfect game but it was worth the time!

A game that actually got me doing fanart for it. (:

Watercolour: Melbourne City in the Winter daytime & RSS/email updates

Very tiny watercolour piece. One has to be veeery patient with watercolours, waiting for them to dry. Because they spread and explode where you don't want them to.

The being in the red jacket is me and this is my interpretation of early Winter mornings in Melbourne's CBD. And I draw myself in that red jacket so I'm recognisable in illustration, not because I wear it all the time haha

At times I had to walk behind someone who was casually walking ahead of me smoking and I struggled not to passive smoke. [Disclaimer: I don't smoke and I know a few people who smoke, so nothing against your freedom of choice despite the health risks; I completely understand that you struggle to find a place where you can smoke. I just don't want to be forced to smoke what you've smoked thanks]

And at the station there were seas of people going up escalators and mobs of people going from place to place either in cars or on footpaths. Basically felt busy, crowded and makes you feel insignificant and tiny.

Reminder to Subscribe to my RSS feed on the sidebar to keep updated!
If you haven't already, subscribe! At the moment, I'll post every two days at 5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time and at least I will post once a week. Or you can choose to get email updates instead!

A BIG THANK YOU to the two/three of you who are already subscribed/following me! (:

Announcement about my website use

After trialing some time with using Posterous to post to Blogspot and my Art Tumblr for me...it's too much of a hassle than it needs to be. I thought I'd be able to do it but I feel terribly stretched. I know I've been going out and trying things--that's why I keep changing my mind after each trial period! And now I have to alter all my descriptions across my websites, hooray.

Thumbelina: Final Illustration

See my progress thread here: http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6532

Learned a lot about toad skin and played around with things.
Depiction of Thumbelina's mother's flashlight on her next new victim husband.
The dead white butterfly has its wings ripped off and was attached to Thumbelina earlier. The others are her other "husbands".

Thumbelina: Character Designs Take 2

I am much more happier with these designs for the Thumbelina contest. I have no expectations in this competition because I'm against the professionals but I'm up for the challenge and the experience. I actually popped out more characters than I actually needed as I only needed Thumbelina and the Fairy King [who still has no name]. I had fun regardless and I may be able to use these new characters of mine in something else. (:
Now I need to actually do an illustration digitally....hope my idea works out! *nervous*

For more information, the competition is due in August and this is my contest entry cghub thread: http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=74070#post74070

Brainstorming origins of my UUUinfinity Logo

My brainstorming efforts in creating a logo took a while as posted here--I needed to do something that represents the three letter Us and the infinity parts of my name.

I then finally ended up with the logo I use as my avatar around the place now. I am currently in the process of making a vector version--only have the texta and pixel art versions out at the moment.

I only intended to make the logo as simple as possible and managed to make a face out of the three Us. Not intended to appear smug/arrogant but really a more relaxed, content with one self, dreaming/sleeping, brimming with smiles kind of mood was intended. (:

Final versions so far here.

Tumblr doodles: Thumbelina for cgHub's Fairytales Re-imagined contest

I'm posting designs and practice sketches to my art tumblr gallery every two days. This is for a competition on re-imagining a fairytale of your choice.

I've chosen Thumbelina. I twisted the story somewhat!

To see my doodling updates, keep checking my "Thumbelina" tagged posts as they come in the upcoming months.  Just wanted to show my progress over there.

I will post finished/completed versions here though! Just wanted to have a go at the competition--I know I am far from being one of the "professionals" but I'll get there someday.

I plan to use this blogspot to post updates on what I do art related in the online world--from cghub, tumblr, deviantart, conceptart, and whatnot. So subscribe to my RSS feed already! (:

First Post: March 2011 updates

 How unfortunate
Pencil-Lead-Shavings-smudged-into-paper-then-use-it-to-create-something-the-second-time-around has resulted in a head. Put a texture by someone else on top to make it pop a bit more.
Let’s call these kind of drawing experiments: “PLSSIPTUITCS” for the above first twelve words.
